2018/19 winter trends: the oversized parka

17.09.2018

There’s very little fashion hasn’t been oversizing this year, from denim jackets, blazers, hooded jumpers and coats we were yet to discover the world of oversized parkas.

We have gathered up some of the best ‘samples’ of this fall winter 2018 newcomer amongst fashion trends to give all the inspo you need before an oversized parka shopping spree.

First off, if you think of parkas as in the military green hooded jacket pinched indeed from the military world, well, you are in for a surprise.

From a change of texture, where shiny nylon is used instead of the typical matte finish and the signature moss green or military green is substituted by blue and black. Then of course the fitting: an oversized parka does not flatter the body with waist strings, but it’s characterised by huge sleeves and hoods you could you use as umbrellas.

Everything coming from Vetements is slightly ‘off’ in sizes: intentionally elongated coats with tartan inserts are their pieces of resistance for fall 2018 as well as the longest oversized parka jackets you can think of. Prepare for plenty of colourful patches, zippers and much more.

No one forbids you from looking at this print on this ‘normal size’ parka, think about how you can make it ‘yours’ and putting in your cart a size XL even if you are Ariana Grande’s height. The ‘alligator’ camouflage motif comes from a hand painted pattern, which was then photographed and printed using super tech processes.

This oversized parka comes in a lightweight material you can wear even during the first chilly days of Autumn: with the playful chemistry inspired application on the back – if you know what it means give us a shout – it’s the new frontiers of streetstyle originality.

Not only shiny or water repellent materials, we have found faux fur oversized parkas that represent the idea of cute and functional you want when looking for the ultimate winter coat. This plush black material is the perfect alternative to the one used for down parkas, plus, its sleek finish is perfect to be worn on top of a dress on a night out.

Burberry’s iconic jackets and coats have made history of fashion through the years: whether for the classic trench or more modern rainbow motif coats, it is pretty difficult to get it wrong when choosing from one of their pieces. Want to look younger? Copy model Malgosia Bela, who at the age of 41 can still be mistaken for her son’s sister: some of it may be down to her striking beauty, some of it comes from the hip styling of her look with an oversized fishtail parka.

Or, stick to the ‘timeless’ version of the parka jacket and simply match it with sneakers and a hooded jumper as Musician Coco Gordon Moore for Moncler, a label where you will find anything you want in terms of puffer jackets – in all sizes, fabrics and textures.
