We hear about some TV series months and months in advance, creating a unique and excessive expectation that doesn’t always correspond to reality. About others, however, we don’t hear much and we even risk missing some titles. Certainly, the great offering of the Netflix catalogue, which is exponentially expanding, leads to the other side of the coin: Faced with a large number of high quality TV series there is the risk that the public will not be able to keep up with all products as they would like to, causing the failure of some productions. Sometimes, in fact, there is a decline in audience ratings, linked only to a small number of loyal fans, and this is not because of the poor quality of the product, but due to an increasingly large and difficult to manage supply. To avoid missing nice and well-made TV series, here are 5 underrated Netflix shows that deserve to be watched and appreciated.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Cast: Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski, Carol Kane, Sara Chase, Lauren Adams, Sol Miranda, Dylan Gelula, Tanner Flood

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, available on Netflix, is one of the most humorous and brilliant comedy TV series of the last years. It tells the story of Kimmy, a girl kidnapped as a teenager and held in a bunker with other girls by a person who calls himself “Reverend”, Richard Wayne Gary Wayne. The series begins with the release of the girls fifteen years after the kidnapping and continues with the adventures and events of the protagonist who finds herself living in New York after years of isolation. The plot seems all but fun. But this is not the case: the strong point of this TV series is to deal with themes and hard situations of everyday life and make them hilarious and comical.
The Get Down

There was enough talk about the arrival of The Get Down, a TV series set up in the Bronx ghettos of the late 1970s, but once broadcasted by Netflix, the audience ratings were pretty low, causing its premature cancellation. It’s a shame, because it’s a series where music is the absolute star: it tells the story of the birth of hip-pop culture and disco music. The protagonists are boys hoping for a better life because the ghetto is a place of perdition, which kills hopes and where intelligence is often made fun of. The series shows great care of detail, fully expressed by the scenic design and costumes, and is able to properly portray a very complex reality.
Cast: Will Arnett, David Sullivan, Ruth Kearney, George Basil, Robert Wisdom, Lina Esco, Dennis Gubbins, Travis Mills

Will Arnett is the protagonist of Flaked, a dramedy TV series, original Netflix production, which tells the story of Chip, a forty-year-old with a past of addiction, considered a point of reference for the coastal town where he lives because he can provide answers and “enlightened” advice to all those who turn to him. But if it is about his private life, things get considerably complicated. Everything is amplified by the encounter with a charming waitress, London, who will shake off the life of the protagonist, exposing all Chip’s contradictions and ambiguities. In this series Will Arnett is truly great and offers an exemplary performance, resulting versatile and multifaceted as never before. The first two seasons are available On Netflix.
Genres: Drama, Thriller
Cast: Kyle Chandler, Linda Cardellini, Norbert Leo Butz, Jacinda Barrett, Jamie McShane, Sissy Spacek, Katie Finneran, Enrique Murciano, Taylor Rouviere, Chloë Sevigny, Ben Mendelsohn, Owen Teague

Bloodline is probably one of the most underrated Netflix shows, albeit unexpectedly. It is a family drama of rare beauty, perhaps one of the best in recent years. The story is about secrets, tragedies and threats that come to light with the return of Danny, the older son of the Rayburn family, triggering a series of tensions and problems that could lead to the worst. Bloodline is an original Netflix series, well-made and characterized by a strong realism and a great visual impact, endowed with an increasing climax and never-ending twists and peaks of tension. The cast is remarkable: Kyle Chandler is detective John Rayburn, Norbert L. Buzz who plays Kevin, the fragile little brother, and Ben Mendhelson, winner of an Emmy for this part, in the intense interpretation of the tormented Danny.

3% is the first Brazilian Netflix production and tells a dystopian story in a future where the elite lives in a heaven-like island, while most of the world’s population is in extreme poverty. Each year, every 20-year-old is given the possibility of being selected to end up in the Offshore where they can enjoy every luxury and ease, but only 3% of them will achieve the much longed for privilege. The series is characterized by an intense and unusual style and is able to make the audience reflect on the social divisions and inequalities that characterize society. Although it hasn’t had the clamor of other productions, in addition to the eight episodes available on the pay streaming platform, the second season should come out in the next months. To be watched!
