Chilling Adventures of Sabrina's plot

Based on the comic book of the same name published by Archie Horror, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a much darker take on the TV series some of you must have watched as teenagers titled Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Sabrina Spellman remains the protagonist of the series as she has to cope and reconcile with her dual nature of being a young girl as well as a ‘young’ witch. Whist she does that, she also has to fight against evil forces upon her and her family. On her 16th birthday, which happens to fall on Halloween, she must go through a dark baptism to embrace her dark nature and this is just the beginning of the many situations in which Sabrina will have to battle between choosing her family and friends over her life and duties as a witch.

Why you should (or not) watch Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

If you are looking for a remake of the teenage rom-com, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is not it. Although some of the most iconic characters from the latter are there, this show isn’t something you would want teenagers to watch as it is filled with gothic, occult and sinister presences. Even Salem the cat is back, the actual black cat the actor walked on the ‘black carpet’ – which alone could be a sign of paranormal activity, although do not expect this Salem to speak, as it does not. Sabrina’s witch aunties also feature in the series, but of course their characters have been reinvented to fit the horror type of storyline.

Is Chilling Adventures of Sabrina scary? It’s certainly not as scary as other horror tv series of the Netflix catalogue, so don’t expect anything like American Horror Story or the Haunting of Hill House, but creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa  stated in an interview:

“It’s definitely a horror series. There’s definitely a lot of people dying; there’s a lot of monsters; there’s a lot of devils and demons; a lot of scary dream sequences. It’s pretty scary.”

A second season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been confirmed and it is due to be released in April 2019.
