Girls Like You by Maroon 5 might be the most feminist music video yet

2,237,238 views in only one day – by the time you will be reading this they will be surely more – is what the latest work of Maroon 5 has totalled with a simple yet ever so meaningful clip.

Not the only record for a music video that includes some of the biggest names amongst female personalities that changed the way we see women.

What makes it so special? The list of female personalities appearing behind Adam Levine while he performs his pop rock song. A simple idea, one that plays though on a some rather ‘never seen together’ all-star cameos. But that’s not all. Cardi B gets to say her line as well – we know what you have got say about this, she’s everywhere.

I don’t really want a white horse and a carriage

I’m thinking more of a white Porsche and karats.

Check them all out: from music to acting, from modelling to sports, from TV to business, these gals have really conquered Adam Lavine’s heart and they all have a bit of fun dancing and singing this pop rock tune.

Camila Cabello, Gal Gadot, Tiffany Haddish, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, Sarah Silverman, Millie Bobby Brown, tech entrepreneur Amani Al-Khatahtbeh and Ellen DeGeneres. The gang of female stars continues with Jennifer Lopez, Rita Ora, Elizabeth Banks, Ashley Graham and the one and only Mary J. Blige.

I need a girl like you, yeah yeah
Girls like you love fun, and yeah, me too
What I want when I come through
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah

Why do we think this might be one of the most feminist music video in history? First because Maroon 5 have managed to gather 2 generations of women that really mattered in the world, in a world where women try to be as good as men.

Un post condiviso da RITA ORA (@ritaora) in data:

Then there’s something else, and with this we do get a feel of celebrating the powerful message some of these women (see how we are not even referring to them as celebrities anymore) sent to the world with their doing, their battles and simply their whole career and with what they are wearing in the video.

Statement T-shirts. And we reckon they are going to be the next big thing in fashion. Raisman’s says  “Always speak your truth,” and she sports it while Levine holds her hand. She is a #MeToo movement campaigner when she testified against former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, who then got sentenced on criminal sexual conduct charges.

Amongst the comments posted on YouTube this sums up probably where Maroon 5 wanted to go with:

at the end when all these great women were standing there and that’s what I love about world when people like Adam Levine understand or know that feminism isn’t about making boys bad no it’s about equality and I don’t know I think that’s what this song is also saying

Adam Levine’s wife Behati Prinsloo and his new daughter Dusty Rose are probably his most precious women featuring in the video and he saved them for last. The camera then pans out and we get to see all the women that feature in the clip standing in a circle

Girls Like You is the third single off of Maroon 5’s “Red Pill Blues” album, which the band released in November.
