Have you entered the world of Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty?

13.09.2018

Well, if you did tune in with the live stream of Rihanna’s debut on the catwalk at NYFW with her Savage X Fenty FW’18 collection, you surely have.

The Barbadian multi-talented singer, actress, designer and style icon isn’t a fashion week virgin, as since 2016 she’s been showing on New York catwalks with Fenty x Puma.

But what she has put together for her ‘inclusive’ lingerie collection line is new, it did serve the audience and those who tune in for the live streaming with a right gobsmacked.

Her models danced, acted, performed all in the name of celebrating that new concept of beauty everyone should have pretty much embraced by now – read more about body positivity – here.

More than a fashion show, Rihanna’s idea of catwalk is the same idea she would have for performing on stage in front of thousands people.

She made fashion interesting in two ways.

On an entertainment point of view as in the theatrical character the whole thing had as well as the rich and iconic soundtrack she chose. This included The Beatles’ Abbey Road, and tracks by Sevdaliza and Catnaap as well Nicolas Cage’s cover of Elvis Presley’s “Love Me Tender” from the Wild at Heart soundtrack she had playing for her entranced on the runway.

On a social point of view. The values she wants to portray through her artistry are no longer perceived as the transposition of her irreverence, of creating something no one has done before. She’s making us all believe ‘what she does’, that the ‘model she chooses’ are reality, are normality.

So, there you have it, diversity should no longer be a word used to define the concept for a fashion line, diversity is normality, the oxymoron annihilates itself, with little need of many speculations.

The show featured an array of appearances starting from Joan Smalls and the Hadid sisters, but the real moment was down to Slick Woods, who flaunted her pregnant body down the runway in a cut-out body suit surely not like those ‘man-repellent’ granny like bras you’d see in shops of the likes of Mothercare. Her nipples did not scream breastfeeding, they said: ‘My body is now better than ever’

So, there she has it.

Her last word, the final act of New York Fashion Week 2019.

Boom!
