Milan Fashion Week Men’s FW2019 takeaways

What is the best way to kick off the year? Style and fashion of course, and crazy weeks of catwalks, shows and events are upon us with Fashion Month behind the corner. At the starting line of runway relays the men gathered up in Milan for the presentation of the FW2019 collection in the Italian capital of fashion and design. We have been looking at the trends and best moments on the catwalk that just unfolded from the 11th to the 14th of January this 2019.

Zegna blew off Central Station

Taking an urban venue, an iconic landmark of a city, one of its busiest nevralgic points  and and turning it into magic is a practice we have already seen trending amongst the head of creative directors, see the beach that popped up in Paris for Chanel’s women’s SS19. Zegna took Milan Central Station, a show the Milanese will not forget thanks also to creative director Alessandro Sartori’s mix of patterns, main takeaway from his men’s FW19 collection.

Prada’s Frankenstein punkness

It is easy to spot this trend Prada have plastered all over their co-ed runway at Milan Fashion Week: studs, exaggerated charms, chains and key holders and symbols of the show: Frankenstein? Yes, his fluo green face worked as a trend d’union to inject the collection with neon colours, in the shape of feather shoulder pads too. The sci-fi ironic cartoonish element is actually the result of a collaboration with illustrator Jeanne Detallante.

Tailoring and a clear reference to the elements of military are also to be noted from Prada’s women’s, symbolising the tension between human nature and the ‘dangerous roughness of life’.

The Men’s bib seen at MSGM show

On top of bold colours, orange and pink, seen on MSGM catwalk, the striking element we dare thinking will take off in the next months is the men’s bib. Coming as the next big thing after the revival of fanny packs, it is signed by Fila and features not one, but two zips for maximum organization.

Military inspired on Dondup’s men

The military blends with sporty as well as the injection of new materials at Dondup, as seen in their ‘custom parachute’  patchwork trousers: the maxi pockets are reinventing 2018 cargo pants . Simplicity meets some of the most urban elements according to an original spirit and a fresh attitude.

Surrealistic prints @ County of Milan

We all needed a bit of escapism and Marcelo Burlon’s surrealistic landscapes gave us just that: his vivid coloured prints were matched with bold colours accessories on the catwalk, a show presenting his 2019/2020 collections, filled with neon coloured animal prints as well as camo sequins.

Snowboarding is the new street style by Numero 00

In June  last year we spoke to Valerio Farina during the first edition of the White Street Market, which you can read about here;  back then his tailoring made interesting some basic, essential jackets and tracksuits from the streetwear world. Now, on the most prestigious catwalk, he has launched a collection featuring the oversized lines of fall-proof snowboarding jackets as well as the practical and technical materials to make them snowproof, injecting everything with bold colours and good dose of urban statement.
