The Best Childish Gambino Songs

Donald Glover has just about done it all. He started off as a member of the famous YouTube channel Derrick Comedy.  He’s also written for shows like 30 Rock, had his own stand-up comedy special and starred in various TV shows and films such as Magic Mike XXL, Spider-Man: Homecoming, the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story and even provided his voice for the forthcoming remake of the Disney film The Lion King.

But that’s not it. Gambino also served as a creator, star, executive producer and writer of the remarkable FX series Atlanta along with his brother, Stephen Glover.

If you think that this guy can’t be doing more than what he has done already then, you’re wrong. He not only cultivated himself as a multitalented force on screen but also reinvented himself as a musician under moniker Childish Gambino and produces his own music under the moniker Mc DJ.

And to celebrate, we want to honor his most recent effort, Awaken, My Love! Here are some of the best Childish Gambino songs.

“Redbone”, from Childish Gambino’s new album, Awaken, My Love! received three Grammy Award nominations including Grammy Award for Record of the Year for the 60th Grammy Awards.

IV. Sweatpants

“Sweatpants” seems to fit a specific rich-boy theme. Gambino mentions in an interview mentioned on Genius in that “Sweatpants” refers to the fact that rich people can wear whatever they want. Like even if you show up in a formal affair in sweatpants, no one would say anything because you are rich enough.

Don’t be mad cause I’m doing me better than you doing you

Better than you doing you, fuck it, what you gon’ do?

“V.3005” released as the lead single from Because The Internet album and has been misinterpreted quite often – it is not a love song but more of an existential kind of thing, having a purpose and having company.

I. The Worst Guys

“I. The Worst Guys” is the 3rd collaboration between Chance The Rapper and Childish Gambino and is quite a feel good song.

The song “Sober” is about a possible break up with a girl that he was thinking of marrying. And the only way to get over his feeling is by getting drunk. Gambino believes that he won’t get over her so he’ll never be sober.

And now that’s it’s over, I’ll never be sober

I couldn’t believe, but now I’m so high

Now I’m so high

If you watch the music video of “Bonfire,” you will see that Childish Gambino is portrayed as a real ghost. Gambino witnesses the campers tell his tale and pretend to be the murderer; except it is not his real story. He is forced to relive this whole event every time campers tell the tale.

Freaks and Geeks

The song “Freaks and Geeks” is Childish Gambino proving he is more mature, despite the name, and is more than just a side project. By releasing this song, Gambino showed those who doubted him that he could rap his ass off.

Rappers wanna battle me, I have to mail their heads back

And my clique make that dinero, so it’s time to meet the fuckers

I am runnin’ this bitch, you are just a dog walker

Me and Your Mamma

“Me and Your Mamma” is the first single from his third studio album Awaken, My Love! and it was praised for the powerful vocals and hypnotizing instrumentals throughout the whole song.

Candler Road

This track is named after Candler Road in Decatur, Atlanta – Gambino’s hometown.

Atlanta, Georgia, got somethin’ for yah

Be Alone

“Be Alone” is the first track off Childish Gambino’s EP (Extended Play). In this song he expresses the loneliness that he feels due to his fame.

“R.I.P.” is one of Gambino’s best tracks and what makes it so special is that it samples “Nightcall” by Kavinsky, a song that was featured on the movie Drive in 2011.

Stand Tall

“Stand Tall,” also from his newest album Awaken, My Love, recalls some advice his parents gave to him when he was a kid. The song is a reminder to stay positive and stand tall in times of hardships.

Keep all your dreams, keep standing tall

Oh I, nah, nah, nah

If you are strong, you cannot fall

If we were kids

I’d want to give you everything that you would want

In the song “Kids,” Childish Gambino uses tinkling xylophone with soft violins tunes to juxtapose the complications of adult love and the simplicity of childhood crushes.

Pop Thieves

There’s not much explanation to do for this song. If you listen to the lyrics, “Pop Thieves” is simply about celebrating and appreciating the love. But did you know that Jaden Smith is featured in this track?

Pound Cake Freestyle

And to leave you with one of his specials, let us introduce you his freestyle “Pound Cake” in Sway in the Morning. He’s on fire!
