20.03.2019

Slime, Jeffrey Lamar Williams or better Young Thug: you might have seen our editorial on his best songs as a solo artist already, and that’s because his music is as original and ‘no regular’ as his fashion style is.

If gender fluidity has been a fashion style music icons of the like of the like of David Bowie and Prince adopted as their style, in the world of rap this is still a new territory. Up until now, or better, up until 2013, when a rapper called Young Thug started making his way to success.

When it comes to swag, there’s no gender involved.

Said Young Thug to Billboard

A gender fluid fashion style has got little to do with a gender fluid identity or at least, the two things can travel or parallel rails: Young Thug often posts snaps with fiancé Jerricka Karla but to confuse the media even more has declared he has fancied wearing women’s clothes since he was 12 years old.

The man has six children (by four women).

In this outfit Young Thug wears one this year’s trends, the sneaker boots, matched with his rapper fashion  statement, black skinny jeans.

With rumours, links, twitter posts being taken off about Young Thug’s near release of Slime Language, Young is one to watch out in the rap scene. On a fashion point of view many ask how tall Young Thug is, his height is an accomplice in this ‘redefining rap fashion’ by Young Thug. Anyway, with his 6’3” slander figure, Young Thug has mastered the perfect style to fit his original personality as well. From colourful dressing gowns and Gucci slippers combo worn as his travel outfits to maxi length sleeveless coats, Young Thug’s outfits are memorable.

If you want to have a go at copying some of Young Thug’s outfits, regardless of heights and physique, there’s one trick you can master easily: layering. Not only as in layering vests, shirts, jackets and sweaters in one single look. Young Thug’s layering is of matching bold prints, neon colours and contrasting styles in one single look.

Athleisure according to Young Thug is miles away from baggy shorts and oversized basketball vests you would see in 90s rap fashion. If he wears anything that has to do with NBA, he manages to take so out of context you’ll even forget what the acronym NBA stands for. Always a pair of skinny jeans: Young Thug’s style is contaminated by other music fashion styles, first in line rock and roll, with its obsession for skin tight trousers. He matches them with flora print shirts, colour block pullovers and anything colourful he can get his hands on.

And even when Young Thug is doing suits, he manages to get that ‘feminine’ vibe to it. In this case, a head to toe smart look is made ‘interesting’ by what has been recently defined as ‘man cleavage’. Watch out boys, because this trend isn’t just an idiosyncrasy of rapper Young Thug, Pitti Uomo did in fact establish this rule for 2018.

Young Thug hairstyles and accessories: it is unavoidable to mention the pink braids, the oversized rings, chain bracelets and unmissable shaded Young Thug adds to every single outfit. That’s one of the privileges of being a rap star: more is always more, whether your crotch is as low as your knees or you are wearing a black lace shirt.
